Intense Gubernatorial Primary Campaigns in Illinois, California Getting Nasty


February 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- How is the political mood in the US these days? If primary campaigns pitting candidates from the same party against each other are any indication, the general elections will be filled with political survivors.

In Illinois, Gov. Pat Quinn, who took over the state after the fall of Rod Blagojevich, was at one point 26 points north of state comptroller Dan Hynes for the Democratic nod on the general election ballot. That race has turned into a dead heat.

The GOP side of California's gubernatorial race was set ablaze Monday with charges of political extortion against one candidate and questions of the mental stability of the other. Steve Poizner has accused an aide of challenger Meg Whitman of trying to bully him out of the race. To counter, Mike Murphy, a Whitman adviser, said in a statement that he was starting to worry about Poizner's mental condition.
